COVID-19 AND LABOUR MARKET DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF GENDER INEQUALITIES (CAme_BaG)

The COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken to contain it triggered one of the most significant economic and social crises in Germany’s post-war history. The disruptions to working life posed particular challenges for families and brought existing gender inequalities to the forefront.

In the collaborative research project between the WZB and the WSI, we investigate the medium- and long-term gendered impacts of the pandemic. The project addresses three central dimensions:

  • Employment effects: How did the pandemic affect employment, working hours, and types of employment for women and men?
  • Income effects: How did the pandemic impact earnings and income developments for women and men?
  • Career effects: How did the pandemic influence promotion opportunities and career progression for women and men?
